Planerunner Alpha has much to fill out before we can post factions, background, etc. However, the first round of concept art is wrapping up. We'll be able to post an online media gallery on Planerunner.com once we have enough art assets.
We already have a lot of in-game models and zones, so watch for preliminary alpha video soon after the concept art gallery arrives. |

Sure, we have news. However, screenshots, animations, videos and other demo media are in short supply (for now). News update: - World development proceeds well. 5 zones are nearly finished, with 2 more at 50%.
- Soundtrack development also proceeds well. Music for the above zones completed.
- Sound f/x work continues. There can never be enough sounds for a project like this.
- Concept art for all player classes is nearly finished. Once done, meshwork can proceed full throttle.
- The ever-present search for better server hosting continues.
Planerunner's initial pre-alpha goal is to host 50 simultaneous users across 10 zones on a single server. This test will be initiated once the server has:- 10 completed zones
- 3 player classes with basic combat scripts
- Completed server, client, and in-game GUI.
Keep an eye out for pre-alpha announcements. We hope to have the server ready to torture, er, test in less than 2 months.

The old Gantry is now gone, but not forgotten. It served as a place holder for Planerunner while the project was in stealth mode. Why keep it under wraps? I made a promise to myself and old Gantry readers that I would only introduce Planerunner once we had a working game engine. I've run into far too many projects that had promise and were hyped in their respective community. However, they were unable to start, let alone have a hope of finishing. If there is no working game engine, or basic framework for development, there can be no game. And lots of disappointment. This time around I decided on a solid benchmark - the game development must have a realistic chance of getting finished. Mission accomplished. We have a successful online test of the server and client. We are able to create our content and scripts. Is the project's middleware perfect? Not by a longshot, but it works. I promised Gantry readers to keep watching this space for something special. It's about to arrive. |
